Regular athlete contact creates a higher responsibility
Jr Wildcats expects adults who have regular contact with wrestlers on behalf of the club to complete the appropriate USA Wrestling safety and screening pathway.
This includes every Board member who is not already credentialed through the applicable Wrestling Leader/coach pathway, as well as other adults who become regular or significant club volunteers around youth athletes.
Coach/Wrestling Leader or Volunteer
A current coach who already follows the USA Wrestling Wrestling Leader pathway should not obtain a duplicate Volunteer identity simply because this policy also applies to volunteers. The club's goal is for the adult to be properly screened, SafeSport trained and credentialed through the appropriate USA Wrestling role.
Examples of adults who should discuss Volunteer credentialing with club leadership
- Board members who are not USA Wrestling Wrestling Leaders/coaches.
- Adults who regularly help at practices or club activities and have recurring contact with wrestlers.
- Adults who routinely serve the club in a youth-facing capacity even if they do not coach technique.
An occasional spectator, one-time helper or parent simply attending their child's activity is not automatically turned into a club Volunteer record by reading this article. When the level of involvement becomes regular or substantial, check with club leadership.
