Athletes first
Coaching exists to serve the wrestlers. Safety comes first. Skill development, confidence, discipline, sportsmanship and a positive team environment follow.
Coach the club, not only your own child
Jr Wildcats coaches are expected to help all wrestlers they are responsible for at practice and competition. The coaching application has long required coaches to support wrestlers regardless of whose child they are.
Be part of the coaching team
Coaches should support the Head Coach and designated instructor, communicate availability, participate consistently, and avoid creating competing instruction or unnecessary distractions.
Learn what is being taught
When a technique is demonstrated, coaches are expected to pay attention and learn it along with the athletes. When the room breaks into groups or partners, coaches should circulate, teach the demonstrated skill, correct technique and reinforce safe drilling.
Represent the Jr Wildcats well
A coach is an official representative of the club. Sportsmanship, language, behavior, interactions with athletes and officials, and conduct while wearing official team apparel all matter.
